This study analyzes the factors that contribute to the psychological deterioration of prisoners from the prison and correction of Abidjan during their incarceration. Indeed, the living and detention conditions have a negative impact on the self-image of prisoners in Abidjan prison and correction. To achieve the results presented in this work, we used a methodology based on the tools of data collection that are the documentary research through the review of the scientific writings related to the subject, the interview with open questions and the observation non-participating. Regarding the analysis of the data collected, it is based on a qualitative analysis. We will also focus on content analysis to highlight all the contours of speeches and responses to the interview. It emerges from this study that it is the living environment and the conditions of detention, the isolation of the outside world, the physical and moral contamination and the loss of autonomy which favors the deterioration of the self-image of the prisoner.
