Abstract:

Techno-biological infusion in agriculture has become important to supply the increasing food demand of the rapidly increased population. The introduction of these inputs in agriculture resulted in transforming the production process. However the adaption of this technology in agriculture in India has not been uniform. It varies from state to state and even between smaller units such as district to district depending upon many factors resulting in unequal development of agriculture. Therefore, in present study, an attempt has been made to assess the spatial variations of techno-biological inputs in agriculture in Uttar Pradesh. The work is based on secondary sources of data, obtained from Census of India, 2001. The district has been taken as the smallest unit of the study. The regional variations in the techno-biological inputs in Uttar Pradesh have been analyzed by applying the technique of Z-score. The overall findings reveal the considerable disparities in districts/regions of the state. It has been observed that Uttar Pradesh though has the sufficient use of bio-technological inputs in agriculture but it is facing uneven distribution among all districts. The paper also recommends an urgent need of the measurement and mapping of regional disparity in terms of bio-technological inputs responsible for the prosperous and backward areas so that the efforts may be made for the uniform distribution of these modern tools in agriculture and thus the sustain level of development of agricultural may be achieved in the state.
